F.F. - Totally pointless reading, but this title has been bringing back that touch of nostalgia that I have for my first family of comics. I am having fun with this, even though the art is not overly grand. Can I suggest this title as a "must read" to anyone? No, there is very little meat to be had here, but for me, it serves as a nice reminder of when Marvel took chances and wrote interesting stories so I am here for the flavoring, not the meal.
Iron Fist - Another "memory lane" trip that, once again, art aside ::) , I enjoyed... mostly... but for no true reason.
Spoiler
I don't get the killing off of Danny Rand just to bring him back two pages later though, so I hope there is more to the newest incarnation than just what I am seeing.
Maybe I missed something important?
X-Factor - So... the writing is fine, its okay, but my over all enjoyment is somewhat lessoned by two things.
- One - The overt comedy tone of this title. I knew, like most X-Factor issues I have read, certainly the ones post Peter David, that comedy was going to be a... factor (ahem) in this, but I wasn't expecting the volume that this title pushed. Sometimes creators go a tad too far changing
SOME characters essence from a somewhat serious lean, to a jovial avalanche and I think that happens here. For me at least. I wanted X-Factor and I got Great Lakes Avengers. That however is not the reason I am off this book. At least this title took a chance and while it didn't hit for me, I would have given it another go solely based on the the fact they tried something, they took a chance. But... we get to this, my second reason
- Two - The reason I will not be reading the next issue (and a major problem with 95% of current Marvel titles that I would be interested in) is the god awful, boring as hell "art". Art is suppose to make us feel, that is what it is supposed to do, and when I see art like this... this boring ass, flat, lack of style, lightboard crap art, it only makes me push it away, as I feel only anger when I read it. But not anger with the way it is meant to be delivered. Just anger from what I am seeing. Banal freakin art.
Not too long ago... hell, maybe it has been a few months, so... a few months ago ;D , I stopped into the small LCS near my house. While there I flipped through some new Zenoscope books (my go to for seeing flat, boring art) and let me tell you something, even Zenoscope titles have better art than what Marvel has been putting out. I mean that on the whole. Yes, Marvel still has a couple good artists, but I can probably count them on one hand... with maybe a finger or two needed to round it out.
Why is my Marvel reading list shrinking? Sure, a good portion of it is the fact they have very little writing talent any longer (again, collectively speaking of course), but the primary reason has to be that this company, that I use to hold so dear, that brought me so much joy as a young reader because THEY TOOK FUCKING CHANCES and looked good doing it, has now become a pathetic, no talent, no risk mockery of what it was.
There is a reason DC is killing it. Good writers, good art, good people taking chances. Sure, there are some things they are doing that I am not a fan of... see Aquaman's new ability for one ::) , but at least they are throwing some stuff out there, and what they are throwing, I am catching!!
Was Batman: Full Moon the best comic? Okay, no, I probably raved too much about it, but look at it. Read it. THIS is a comic!!!
I made myself a promise, I was no longer going to waste time on books with lazy ass art. I'm sticking to it! It is why I only have about ten or so new Marvel titles a month now.
Bah, now I'm in a mood
;D

LOL. Best rant of the week! With this title, it was the forced comedy and slapstick. Not my genre. Part of the reason I was not a fan of the Deadpool/Wolverine movie. Not organically funny.
And I agree about taking chances at DC. I am finding myself stepping outside of my regular reading list to sample new material.

Avengers 17 - Not a bad start. I'm a Hyperion fan and I like where this is going. Feels like a classic Avengers tale in the making. I'm in!
Phoenix 2 - Wow! What an unexpected surprise this is turning into! Love Corsair being in the book. Excited about the villains in this! Just all around fun comic! Jeff Recommends!
Ultimate Black Panther 7 - anyone else getting bored with this? I think they've drug this story arc out way too long and I'm losing interest.

Zatanna - Pretty darn fun mini. The art is the main, but not only, selling point here, as I am a huge fan of Rodriquez art
Action Comics - Not as fun as the last two, primarily because

I am confused as hell about the Mon-El stuff, He was named after Monday? What?
Absolute Wonder Woman - Another good one. Fantastic art!! Love the different take here every bit as much as I loved the Batman one. Here's hoping that the Supes title can making it a clean sweep!

I don't blame ya!! I am really excited for a lot of the All-In stuff (though I am still on the fence about the "powers being transferred" thing) but so far so good. And the Absolutes have been BANGING so far.

Yes.
I have it in my DC Showcase, the very first appearance of him, that's how it occurred. Gotta love 1942 writing!!!

Oh I'm not saying it didn't happen, I know Waid is a history buff so I trust his knowledge, but I just think some things should stay in the 40's

You meet someone and decide to name them a with a combination of the day you met with your own family name? Your own LAST name (Well, Kryptonian speaking of course). Wouldn't Mon-Kal been more, I don't know, apt? ;)

Redcoat 5 & 6 - Glad I came back to this as I enjoyed the wrap up for this arc. I should have seen that twist coming but loved it. Looking forward to next issues epilogue.

Absolute Wonder Woman 1 - I like how this is starting but I'm not a fan of the art. It's not terrible but I would have liked a different artist on this. That said, the origin itself is interesting and sets things up for what can be amazing stories.
ACTION COMICS #1072 - I liked this. Although I don't know the villain reveal at the end. Is this a known villain? Supergirl story was really creepy. I love it!
GREEN ARROW #17 - basically a wrap up of Absolute Power and setup for next arc. I'll check out the next arc and see where it goes.
Still nothing new, that I've been waiting for, showing up on Hoopla, but I did see a new Matt Wagner and Kelly Jones book... a Dracula book? Now that I could not miss. Kelly Jones doing vampire stuff? I am all over that puppy. He, along with a couple others (like the amazing Gene Colon that was just on my Doctor Strange read), are way up on my horror artist scale! Their styles just fit that genre so well

Immortal Thor - This was fine. Kind of left me unimpressed, overall, but that feeling may have been birthed by me overhyping the idea of the Thor/Herc bromance getting back together again ;D The issue did end enough for me though.
Ultimates - This I am going to call a compelling let down. It wasn't bad, wasn't great, but possibly sets up a decent development down the road.
Green Lantern Dark - Read all 50 some pages, even though I knew at about page 20 this was not going to be for me. And it is not for me. I'm out. Nothing horrible here, just not my cup of tea.
LoSH #275 - Not a fan of this two part story, especially because it, essentially,
Spoiler
leaves us off right back where we were two issues ago with the apparent death of Ultra Boy making this a totally pointless two issue arc
but at least it ended as a better read than I thought it was going to after the last issue.
LoSH #276 - Ditko is back again on art, but this issues isn't as terrible as the ones prior. No idea why, its the same inker (the same one that makes the other rotating artist Jimmy James look so much better), but maybe Ditko had more time on this one? Don't get me wrong, it isn't good art, just better than his usual. The story starts weak as hell
Spoiler
why are our heroes in cloaks when you can see their entire freaking uniforms underneath? And the "villain" here was pretty easy to guess from the title. I mean "Lord Romdur"... Maybe because the wife and I watch a lot of the British show Countdown (well, the 8 out of 10 Cats version anyway ;D) or maybe it is just that damn easy to see, which is more likely :) , but yes, it was clear from the get go what I was going to see. Although in all fairness, maybe as a youngster I would not have put two and two together, yeah? But hell, they fought this fight far too easily for this guy to be the threat he is... or is suppose to be.
And yes, I still miss the "Roll Call" being a thing :(
Adv of Supes - I don't know. Had a really hard time separating this writing from today's style. Not far removed enough like the 70's stuff I am reading, perhaps? I think my lack of comfort came mainly do to one character's voice being so different, but... I don't know... I just didn't enjoy this as much as I had hoped I would. but I will try and keep going with my Triangle Era run. At least I didn't seem as far disconnected as I had been with the first three separate story titles that I began with. Maybe I was just not in the mood for Supes. I know that is a thing that hits me from time to time.
Superman - Wow, didn't see THAT ending coming. My first impression (which I still have but I am hoping to lose) is I am not happy about it, but I trust Waid, so I am just sitting on my lack of joy at the present time, letting my confused anger fester until, hopefully, Waid writes in a reason for me to celebrate. I am also not a fan of
Spoiler
Lois being powered
. I knew at the end of Absolute Power that powers would be a'changing and a'swapping and a'blooming all over, but not liking this one. I am still here, but mainly due to two words:
Dan and Mora
The dude is one of, if not THE, best artist in the big two right now. I also loved how he included himself as a Daily Planet employee
