Title: The Binge List
Post by: Gay Titan on May 15, 2024, 07:12 PM
I wasn't sure how to create a new header under the Entertainment section. This isn't the NFL or the NHL.

Finished:
1. X-Men '97 - Season 1
2. Barefoot Contessa - Seasons 18 & 19... I love a good cooking show with cocktails.
3. Bridgerton - Season 3, part 1
4. Mary & George... WOW!!! Quite an ending. There will not be a season 2.

Currently watching:
1. NCIS Hawai'i - Season 3... just got cancelled. BOO!!!!
2. CSI Vegas - Season 3... Ditto
3. 9-1-1 Season 7 - Giving it a try. Never watched 1-6.
4. Dr. Who - Season 1... I know there are previous seasons and Doctors, but Disney+ is calling it Season 1 for them.

Waiting For/Hasn't Started Yet
1. Sandman - Season 2

I get calling the Eccleston Doctor "Season One" as it had been about 15 years since the original series was dropped, but to go from Jodie Whittaker in just two short years (or David Tennent if you go that route in 2023) and not just call it series 14 is... I don't know.

But then again, maybe they are starting all the way over and this is the "first" doctor?

I don't know as I am not watching it (I stopped on the second year of Capaldi's run) and I have no desire to anymore.
It was always a tad CW like  ;D, but with Tennant and Smith (and Russell as showrunner and Gaitis at the helm) it was a damn fine show. It rapidly went south when they started pushing Russell out however.

Sad, as I think the writing with Capaldi (and from what I hear, Jodie Whittaker) was pretty... weak, and both "Doctors" were pushed to be the blame. Stars being stars and all

Gotta say that I am enjoying this season/series. LOVE the British vibe and even the way it's filmed is a welcomed changed. I have seen random episodes of Tennant and not a fan. I haven't seen the female Dr. Who in action but I am sure it's on YouTube if I looked.

:o

;) :)

While I was a big fan of the original Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker), mainly due to me growing up with him on PBS (I also did go back and catch more of the other, original run Doctors), I will say, for me, Tennant was THE best one out there.

I still do enjoy Baker (my doc #2 now) and of course I found the stories from Doctor #11 Matt Smith to be some of the best written episodes ever (and he was another great one ... my doc #3 ;D ), but now I think I can only ever go backwards when it comes to Who now. I sadly have no desire to watch this new run. Capaldi (an actor I do really like) killed it for me.

I do often think about going back to Baker's run and start watching everything from there, but "who" knows.

I loved both Tennant and Smiths run.  Smith edges out as my favorite just because the storylines were so good.  Loved the side characters too, especially Karen Gillen as his companion and the whole River storyline coming full circle.

I loved Baker as the Doctor. I watched him as a kid when my grandmother would babysit. She said he was handsome. LOL.

Finally had time to update my list.  I've made a lot of progress.

Finished:
1. Fargo - Season 4 - Excellent season!  1940's story starring Chris Rock and Jason Schwartzmann. There was so much going on they had to add an extra episode to get it all in. Loved the crazy nurse and Jessie Buckley did an amazing job portraying her. Big thumbs up for this one.

2. Fargo - Season 5 - Another great season.  Loved seeing Keeley from Ted Lasso as a bad ass.  Jon Hamm is a great villain as well.

3. Resident Alien- Season 3 - this started out horrible and got really "CW" like.  Probably won't stick around for a season 4.

4. Invincible - Season 2 - finally finished this.  It wound up ending decently but having a break in the middle of a season that is only 8 episodes almost lost my interest.

5. Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - Season 1 - This was unexpectedly really good!  I hope they make more of these mini seasons.  Having Daryl in France was a nice expansion of the Walking Dead universe. The new characters were very interesting as well.

Currently Watching

My husband is addicted to it. I didn't start watching til season 2, but it's surprisingly a fun series.
I was surprised that season 3 was the end and wrapped up everything.

If any of you are Star Trek fans, you should really check out Star Trek: Prodigy on Netflix.  It was so good and, in many ways, a better Voyager show than some of Star Trek: Voyager.  It amazes me that Prodigy is technically a children's show... but the CG animation, storytelling, and characters are some of the best I've seen in Trek.  The team that created the show are true artists.

I really hope it does well because I really really want a Season 3.

Welcome back Krono!  It's been a minute or two.

I've been meaning to check that Star Trek show out.  I'm a huge Trek fan but thought it was for kids.  I'll add it to my list!

Indeed, Welcome back Krono!
:)
If I get a few, I will check out the Trek show. I also thought it was more for the younger crowd so I avoided it. But hey, not like I am opposed to it if it is good!!!

Ok, been awhile since I've posted on this thread, but let me throw this up now anyway...
:)

Finished:
- Dark Matter (Apple+) - a sci/fi series about a man who is abducted from his own universe and his ongoing journey to try and get back. Think of the show Sliders meeting The Kidnapping. This was okay, I have issues with some of the choices in episode three (which I can't go into here) and the ending was... a little too much, but it was an okay little show. And its never hard for me to watch anything with Jennifer Connelly in it  ;)
- Franklin (Apple+) - Michael Douglas may have never acted so poorly. This was okay, very slow (which I was expecting), and while historically accurate (showing Ben in France, trying to obtain money to fight the British), there wasn't much "punch" to this show.
- Welcome to Wrexham (Hulu) - Yeah, okay, I have... I HAD no interest in "football" and only watched this for two reasons. One, because I needed something to watch during downtime when the wife couldn't watch with me (something she had little to no interest in) AND two, my total man crush on all things Ryan Reynolds  ;D This was a great doc/show. I had no idea that British league soccer err... football... moved in and out of pro-levels like they do. That is awesome. If you finish in the last 3 or 4 spots in your league, you get booted to the next lower league and if you win in the lower league, you move up to the next highest. That is cool as hell!! I mean it is like if the Cleveland Browns, after years and years of being shit, were relegated out of the NFL and had to play in the CFL.  ;D
- Fallout s1 (Prime) - A great adaption. This was fun as hell. Violent, funny, sad... yep, top marks for this post apocalyptical show!!!!

Currently Watching:
APPLE+
- Presumed Innocent - A murder mystery, based on the book (and technically a "remake" of the Harrison Ford movie) with the same name. Only one more episode to go (coming Wednesday) and the wife is mad as, not only does she not remember who did the killing, it irritates her that I do remember.  ;D
- Trying - A British comedy/drama about a couple going through the adoption process. Really heartwarming and funny. We just finished the first season and ready to start the next tonight.
- Sunny - A sci-fi series about a Japanese robot engineer/designer that dies in a plane crash and the mystery surrounding his work. Which includes the new "house'bot" that is now by his wife's side (played by Rashida Jones). Very trippy, but very cool
MAX/HBO
- Hard Knocks: Ney York Giants - Ahhhh, true "football"  ;) ;D
- Hacks (s3) - Been a few weeks and this is a series the wife and I need to get back to, but it is pretty fun, for a time killer
PRIME
- The Boys (s4) - It is kind of frustrating when this show tries to out Boys the Boys, with crazy sex and gore, but all the same, I watch. I will also say that while, in the past, this show rode a little on the edge politically, while leaning left, this season is full bore. Most subplots are mocking the crazy conspiracy side of things IE
Spoiler
Pizza-Gate
[close]
, which I am personally fine with, but I would rather not be beaten over the head with most political stuff. I have no problem with shows being relevant socially, but man, yeah, I mostly feel like the character Alex from A Clockwork Orange at times (if you know the scene I am referencing, you get two points!). ;D Only one more episode to go this season though, and then one more final season, so I can make it
YOUTUBE
- 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (s12) - A British "maths" and anagram panel show featuring the best and greatest British comedians. Sounds horrible? Try it. It is funny as hell. It is also fun to play with the wife because we keep score. She blows me out of the water making words out of the random anagrams (she gets 7 and 8 letter words all the time, while I am lucky to get a 7), but I keep it close with the math section.  :)

Coming Soon:
- The Bear s3 (Hulu) - This season has started, but the wife and I are waiting for it to finish dropping so we can binge the season. This is a fantastic, yet frantic show. Love it!!
- The Lady in the Lake (Apple) - A murder mystery? Well I'm always down for that!!

I think that is all... I think? No, there is more, but I just can't think right now.
;D
I will edit this later.
;)

I did, but I had no idea that promotion and relegation was for every single British League team. Thought it was just for the top couple leagues. The way it works, even "regular joes" teams, people that get together on the weekends, can potentially rise up. I mean, the sheer amount of British teams is astounding, and the fact that each and every one of them COULD become a premiere league team is crazy.

It is highly unlikely, and once you get down to the lower tier it is highly doubtful you will rise to the top level, or even the top three, but yeah, there is a chance.

There is no NFL or NHL owners group that controls the entire system and dictates what team does what. Again, it would be like The Browns being kicked out of the NFL. It's crazy.

1. Shogun - Amazing series! Absolutely loved every episode of this one.  Very Machiavellian.  Wife and I binged the whole thing in two days. Just couldn't stop watching.
2. Sweet Tooth - Season 2 - Not anywhere near as good as season 1.  In fact, I almost gave up on it. The last two episodes saved it for me and thankfully the start of season 3 is much better.

I hope he did, and you as well if you give it a go, but it took too long to "get there" for me. It is good, but I found the hype surrounding it to be a tad more than the substance. As a drama, it is fine, enjoyable even, but it is a slow burn. Which is okay, no problem with slow burn, I just expected more meat a little earlier on I guess, based on the raves that I was seeing when it first hit.
But I would say it is like LOST Lite... until it isn't
;)
(Although admittedly, I am also not a huge fan of Melanie Lynskey, on anything other than her portrayal of Molly Strand in Castle Rock and (of course) Rose on Two and a Half Men, which she crushed)

1. Con Man - Season 2 - Fairly decent season.  Humor seemed a little more juvenile than the first season but I still liked it.

2. Frasier - Season 2 - Good season and even better than the last one.  Characters are becoming more fleshed out and interesting.  Adding Roz from the original as well as Patrica Heaton from Everybody Lives Raymond as a potential love interest has been a plus.

3. The Umbrella Academy - Season 4 - Really good wrap up to the series. There were many different things to enjoy.  5 and Lila's journey.  Gene and Jean.  Baby Shark do dooo do do do doodoo Baby Shark. Great music that wove seamlessly into the storylines.  Klaus and the dead dog.  And so many more.  Definitely one of my favorite seasons of the series.

Not a lot of TV I'm watching anymore but I do slowly make it through some things.  I've canceled all my streaming services except Paramount+, Prime, and Max (because I get it for free).  Going to wait for some shows to build up before adding any back on the pay list.

Finished:
1. Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon the Book of Carol: Season 2 - That was awesome.  Pretty dang awesome as a matter of fact.  So glad there'll be a season 3.  Best spinoff from the Walking Dead ever and maybe better than some seasons of WD!

2. Star Trek: Lower Decks - Season 5 - Excellent ending for the series.  I'm going to miss this one. It was so much fun.

Currently Watching
1. Matlock -Season 1 - on episode 9 of 10. Drops Thursdays thru Feb 6 - Paramount+

I did forget to finish Yellowstone before I cancelled Hulu so I may have to go back and add that briefly.

Finished:
1. 1923 - Season 2 -  Great ending to this series though this season was a lot darker than the first. Things get tied up by the end and the speculation on the Dutton tree is now known and in stone.  Gonna miss this one because it was really my favorite Dutton series.  Harrison Ford and Helen Mirrin were amazing as Jacob and Cara Dutton.
2. Matlock -Season 1 - Great show! Plus an 18 episode season! That's unusual these days.  Kathy Bates is great as Maddie Matlock. The direct references to the Andy Griffith show make it fun as well. Nice cliffhanger as well.

Currently Watching
1. Yellowstone - Season 5 Part 2 - final 6 episodes - on episode 1
2. Invincible - Season 3 - 8 episodes

I tried watching Marvel's Ironheart and it was sooooo bad. Twenty minutes into the first episode and I had to walk away. Please tell me that she dies in Avengers Doomsday.

This may shock you.  I made it through the whole season and wound up enjoying it.  And I actually hate this character in the comics.  The real villain reveal at the end was pretty cool.

The wife and I have been absolutely killing our subscription to the streaming service "MHz", so I am just posting the shows we are watching together.
I'm on my own schedule with everything else, but the shows we watch are many (and usually the better  ;)), so they deserve the top billing
 ;D

We are rolling through all kinds of European crime dramas, which we prefer as they tend to be more realistic and emotionally impactful and they are our personal favorite type of crime stories. Even though I will always have a soft spot for my more family friendly Poirot and Columbo, there is something about feeling the hairs of your arm standup when you watch some of the amazing acting on some of these harsher shows.
We started off strong with both Valhalla Murders and Trapped (both from Iceland) and we haven't looked back yet.

We just finished:

- The Killing (Original Danish version called - Forbrydelsen) seasons 1-3
- The Bridge (Original Danish/Swedish called - Bron/Breon) seasons 1-4
- Pagans Peak (Original German/Austrian called - Der Pass) seasons 1-3 (And the first two seasons are incredible!!!)
- Chestnut Man (Original Danish called - Kastanjemanden) 12 episode mini-series (This is also available on Netflix)
- The Breakthrough (Original Sweden called - Genombrottet) 4 episode mini-series (and the weakest of them all)
- The Reindeer Mafia (Original Sweden called - Poromafia) 8 episode mini-series (This had a bit of humor, which kind of threw me)

Currently Watching:

- Modern Family - We always watch a comedy while eating dinner  :D
- Chief of War - One more episode of Jason Mamoa's Hawaiian epic to go
- Only Murders in the Building - Last season for show? Not sure, but last one for me
- The Break - (From Belgium called - La trieve) No Poirot here. Hahaha
- Great British Bake-Off - New season!!!
- House of Games - A trivia game show from the UK starring Richard Osman, one of my favorite Brits
- Fisk - An Australian comedy about a will and probate lawyer. Funny, but more the wife's than mine
- Alien Earth - The last episode of the season just dropped and it will be watched tonight!!!

Starting Soon:

- The Prisoner (Original Denmark called - Huset) - 6 episode mini-series
- Arctic Circle (Original Finish called - Ivalo) - seasons 1-2
- Hinterland (Welsh) - seasons 1-3

Yeah, the start of season two and who killed Bunny was pretty rough until midway or so. It got better, as did the other seasons, which yes, also started kind of "not great", but they all have, so far, gotten better as they went. Is it worth the time? Nah... I wouldn't even bother, but I'm trying to keep some "cozy murders" on the list to make up for all the harsh Nordic murders
;D
I have to have some lighter fair. At least that is what the wife tells me
:-X
