DD - Really enjoying this, and man, Steve McNiven going major Frank Miller here with this issue. The writing is fun and absolutely entertaining, but the way McNiven is drawing? Characters, especially one in particular, looking a lot like how Frank drew things about 10 years ago (though I prefer the look here by a good large margin). Totally different style for Steve, and that is so cool. Plus the way Matt actually looks old while he is in his costume... great stuff. It's a great rendition
Ult Spidey - Yep, I am head-over-heels with this "Mysterio" stuff. Really good stuff here. No idea where this is heading within the Ultimate Universe's upcoming future, or lack there-of, but I'm here for it all regardless
MARVEL
Ultimate Spider-man 17 - cool mysteries
Daredevil Cold Day in Hell 2 - very fun & cool! This book could almost be in the Spider-man Reign universe! Great visuals, really enjoying the pacing/storytelling here!
Uncanny X-men 251 - Silvestri art! That X! So much of a hole in my X-men knowledge!
DC
Legion 317 - I'm liking this part of the title for maybe finishing up stories/storytelling before the title had to switch over the new #1. Great resolution/story aspect going towards IK's resurrection. All of this title still is from when Dream Girl was leader.

I have thought the same! :)
McNiven's style here is very reminiscent in form (and overall look) of Kaare Andrews' stuff in that story

Uncanny X-Men 251 - So satisfying for me. The start of one of my favorite eras of the X-Men. The ramifications of this issue spawns so many story arcs that aren't all resolved until issue 280. Plus Jubilation finally comes out of hiding and meets the X-Men for the first time! Well, at least one of them. 🙂
ROGUE: THE SAVAGE LAND #5 - That was a fun end to a fun mini. Rogue, Magneto, and Kazar back in the era of my favorite X-Men. This takes place right after the events of Uncanny X-Men 250-251 (See this week's Puppet Master pick). I'm giddy over the X-Men again.
DAREDEVIL: COLD DAY IN HELL #2 - Very good Marvel book. Are we getting a few gems out of the Marvel folks finally? About time!
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #17 - This is the best arc of this series. So glad I hung around this long. Mysterious is so far the most interesting "villain"(?). War is here.

I just realized, that after getting all the Uncanny X-men Essentials, and some more of the colored trades, I last read all the way through Inferno-and then that was it until X-men 1 !!
So, I have to restart, for myself, Uncanny 243 Inferno's end, and read on again!!!

Uncanny - A pleasure of a Claremont read, as he wasn't as voluble as he can be. Sometimes... most times... those older books can take a long time to get through, but this one was a pretty fast read, especially considering the writer :) Art was classically fun, but I never noticed how much Silvestri left panels open with little or no background. Of course I am giving him a pass here with this issue as the location of this story didn't really lend towards scenic wonderment ;D
Event Horizon - Man, this was so disappointing. Art was perfect for this story, but the writer lost me about halfway through. :'(
Geiger - This book is rapidly falling down my list. I get excited when I see the cool covers and then I read the issue and I come away feeling like I just don't care. It also feels like this book is on repeat. I know we have moved forward with the story, but damn if it doesn't seem, to me, like we are still on the first arc. :-\
Legion - Back-up story I struggled through. Even the great Karl Kesel couldn't save the art with his inks. That story ended up looking like Infantino or Ditko did the pencils in a lot of the panels. Two artist that my eyes do not enjoy. But man Kesel made the first story look good!! Sadly, I think my admiration of one Legionnaire is at an end as I have truly wrestled with the way Wildfire has been written. My younger, more headstrong self remembers Wildfire as a cool ass hothead who took charge and got things done, but as an adult, I see him more of a whiney little bitch who doesn't think at all. I don't like that. I want my image of Wildfire back. :(
Hellraiser - a very good, and sad, look into how our belief in the US political system has changed from the rose colored glasses that we all seem to wear thinking about JFK and Lincoln to the hard truth that they are just men with the same flaws as most, but with much more power. All told through the lens of a drugged up Constantine walking through Hell. But he was able to free Papa Midnight's sister, who takes her revenge on her brother 8)
Resurrection Man - Another banger of an issue. Christopher Chance, The Human Target, pulls off an amazing ploy in this issue. Oh and how the team decides to hide the key... its awesome. Oh, and then the Phantom Stranger pops back by to say hello? :D
Abs Supes - Another good issue with some questionable inking on just some pages. Weird that. Anyway, not sure I am a fan of this villain being here, in this title, at this time, but I am also very intrigued by what this means for upcoming issues. So yeah, I am excited by it, but also a tad leery of it. ???

Legion of Super-Heroes #317 - just an ok issue. Glad the Invisible Kid mystery is solved.
ABSOLUTE GREEN LANTERN #5 - I'm starting to lose interest. Thankfully it might finally be getting somewhere. I'll give it one more issue.
ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN #10 - Another good issue. This one continues to hit month after month.
JSA #10 - This book finally got better. I'm actually looking forward to the next issue.

Knives - Another great Brubaker/Phillips collaboration. A friendly (not-so friendly) face makes an appearance and I loved that. Didn't see it coming. And I can also appreciate how this story is non-to-loosely, or at least more than partially ;) based on Brubaker's own Hollywood experience. The main character in this book could easily BE Brubaker (if Brubaker could draw ;D )
And hey, could someone show me more than one or two panels... in this entire trade... that should've had background art but didn't. I may have missed them, but I don't remember one single panel that wasn't full. Thank you, sir, for showing us how it could be done.
This was solid story-telling and although not overly pulse-pounding, you find you get so vested in the story, per usual with this creative team, that you never get bored.

Meridian #1 & 2 - my least favorite of the Crossgen series so far. It's still read the series as it has some interesting dynamics.
Red Border #2-4 - I didn't like this at all. Sick and twisted beyond anything I could enjoy. Think "House of a Thousand Corpses" in comic book form.

Don't put yourself through it, man. It's just like the "Rule of Bourbon"; drink what you enjoy... read what you like!! ;D

For some reason, when I saw you had this on your list, I was thinking it was Cullen Bunn and Deodato's Red Zone. So when you said it was like that (awful) movie, I was confused.
I see now.
;D
Now I love me some horror, but I didn't like HoaTC because it was horribly made and more of an homage to Texas Chainsaw... which to me, and I understand I am mostly going solo on this thinking, at least inside the movie viewing world, is another movie I think was horribly made and is vastly overrated.
Oh but thanks for the heads up on this series. 8) I've never heard of the writer (that I remember), but I peeked at the art and I don't think I will miss it too badly ;D
I do hope to one day get to that other one, Red Zone, but I need a long break from Deodato's constant extended panel line style. I liked it at back in the day, but I am also guilty of liking Steven Platt's Moon Knight at one point in time ::)
Come on Deodato, change up a little, ya know?
