I am actually current and up to date on my reading. Looking forward to a new week and new comics.

Okay let's see what we are getting up to this week...
Of course this list is subject to change, now that I can no longer get an accurate list of what is hitting Ultra, much less Hoopla's "who knows what is hitting" manner of uploading. I do have a couple more titles from Marvel this week, though I am not too thrilled with one of them (I am hoping that it changes my mind though... you hear that X-Men?)

I'm sure I will be deleting and adding comics from the list this week, but for now, this is what I am (somewhat) expecting -

Marvel Unlimited
Immortal Thor #13
X-Men #2
Ultimate Spider-Man #7
Doctor Strange #12 (1974)
Mystic #6

DC Universe Ultra
Absolute Batman #1 (if it drops)
Action Comics #1070 (maybe, haven't decided yet)
GL: Civil Corps Special #1
Legion of Super-Heroes #272

Hoopla
Savage Sword of Conan #5
Conan: Battle of the Black Stone #3
It Happened On Hyde Street: Devour #1
Redcoat #7
Minor Threats v2 (Collects Minor Threats: Fastest Way Down issues 1-4)

VERY frustrated with DC right now.

Marvel Unlimited
Immortal Thor 13
Ultimate Spider-Man 6
X-Force 1
X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse 4
X-Men 2
Mystic 10
Mystic 11
Mystic 12

DC Universe Ultra
Brave & the Bold Vol 1: Lords of Luck

I give up. I looked everywhere for a list of comics coming out on DCUI and can't find one.  Even the solicits stopped putting out a release schedule.

Hoopla
Once Upon a Time at the End of the World 13
Once Upon a Time at the End of the World 14
Once Upon a Time at the End of the World 15

ComiXology
BRZRKR vol 3 (Collects issues #9-12)

Jeff, I know you're mad at the lack of DC information, and I am with ya, but don't forget your Legion issue
:)
Oh and the only thing I found, that is somewhat easy to use for DC... and what is coming out on Ultra, is THIS SITE (https://comixnow.com/category/dc-weekly/). I just count back the four weeks and see what SHOULD be hitting. Not the best, but better than nothing? Maybe?

Marvel Unlimited
Immortal Thor #13
X-Men #2
Ultimate Spider-Man #7
Doctor Strange #12 (1974)
Mystic #6
Mystic #7 <-- Added

DC Universe Ultra
Absolute Batman #1 (if it drops)
Action Comics #1070 (maybe, haven't decided yet)
GL: Civil Corps Special #1
Legion of Super-Heroes #272

Hoopla

Conan: Battle of the Black Stone #3
It Happened On Hyde Street: Devour #1
Redcoat #7
Minor Threats v2 (Collects Minor Threats: Fastest Way Down issues 1-4)

**************************************************************

Thor - Man, what freaky timing.
Spoiler
On the very same day I read about THIS (https://theblast.com/639544/chris-hemsworth-update-alzheimers/), I read this comic where Thor is shown discussing, and reminding me, how the recent hex or spell the Enchantress placed on him affects his mental state when on Midgard. How it slows his thinking and makes him foolish. Man, crazy timing this was. As for the issue, pretty good, always a fan of a Thor/Herc team-up and from what is shown in the last page, I will be reading Thor #14 as soon as it drops.
[close]

Ult Spidey - Now this was a good issue! From the art to the story (which has so many Easter eggs on upcoming events its crazy), I really enjoyed this one. I think this is my favorite issue yet from the entire relaunch. But there may be some recency bias there  ;D
Spoiler
Love the mention of the "Six" from Fisk, loved the multiple Bullseyes, loved Robbie, I even loved the little nod to Doc Oc in that first panel where the "arms" are shown near his back
[close]
;)

X-Men - Overall, this was kind of clunky feeling to me, but luckily, nowhere close to being as boringly bad as issue one. Although my cynical side has me feeling that this issue's story and outcome is something that we, the readers, have gone through countless times before, including very recently, so there is that. Still, not a horrible issue, even if it has a far too familiar feel

Mystic - Okay, now we are getting somewhere.
Spoiler
Not sure how I missed it, maybe I didn't and just forgot, but love that the "main" sorcerer/magic user is called Mondru. Certainly no connection at all to Mordru or Mordo (which probably was a nod to Mordru to begin with  ;)). Issue #7 we get the great, although young and not as refined, Steve McNiven on art. Looking good! Man I wish Marvel would put out the rest of the CG stuff. The First is showing itself more now and I really want that series to drop. Also thought it was funny the way Skitter (or Dirk as he wants to be called  :D) pushed the pieces of the bauble he broke under the chair to hide it. hahaha

Not a good week for my X-reading.  I'm getting concerned about the post Krakoa comics.

X-Force 1 - I'm not familiar with Geoffrey Thorne as a writer but he did not impress me with this first issue. Dialog was disjointed and hard to follow.  I don't think I'm going to stick around for this version of X-Force.

X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse 4 - I didn't like the winners transformation in this issue. It could be interesting for future stories but it would need a really good writer to pull it off.  Enjoyed the journey in this mini but not the end.

X-Men 2 - The art is really killing this for me. Plus the team doesn't seem to fit together the way McKay is writing them.  I'll give it one more issue to keep me around.

Legion of Super-Heroes #271 - Good ending to a good story arc.  Appropriate that I read this on Election Day as it's the issue where Colossal Boy's Mom is elected President. The final issue of the three part Fatale Five / Dark Man story was enjoyable.

Added another issue of Strange, though I may not get to it this week. Also added a "short" three issue scif-fi series from Hoopla, as I was tired of waiting for the others to drop

Marvel Unlimited
Immortal Thor #13
X-Men #2
Ultimate Spider-Man #7
Doctor Strange #12 (1974)
Doctor Strange #13 (1974) <- Added
Mystic #6
Mystic #7

DC Universe Ultra
Absolute Batman #1 (if it drops)
Action Comics #1070 (maybe, haven't decided yet)
GL: Civil Corps Special #1
Legion of Super-Heroes #272

Hoopla
Savage Sword of Conan #5
Conan: Battle of the Black Stone #3
It Happened On Hyde Street: Devour #1
Redcoat #7
Minor Threats v2 (Collects Minor Threats: Fastest Way Down issues 1-4)
If You Find This... I'm Already dead (collects issues 1-3) <- Added

**************************************************************

Strange - Well damn, I thought this was only a 3 issue arc, but this ended with different plans. Ha. Can the Ancient One... or the representation of him... help Steven in his battle (debate) with Eternity? Ha, we don't know yet (well, I mean we KNOW... the character is still around  ;D), but hopefully next issue will show us the answer/reason?

**************************************************************

Lantern - Gotta say I was stoked to see Salvador LaRocca on art. That first page looked sweet. And then... yuk. Was this a rush job? Art here is pretty weak, considering the artist, but sadly it pales in comparison to the flow of this issue. Plot is fine, but writing is clunky as hell.
Spoiler
From the "this is my girlfriend" stuff near the beginning to the stuff near the end with Thaaros, who meets his end far to quickly.
[close]
Still, I enjoyed what happened and look forward to seeing the rest in GL #16, but this could have been better  :-\

Absolute Bat - If you're gonna do a different take on Batman, do a different take on Batman. Really enjoyed this.
Spoiler
That cape is badass!! And using his "cowl ears" the way he did? Awesome!! Not sure about the Ax shirt, haha, but hey, I'm down for it! Still hard for me to see anything other than East of West when I see Dragotta's art, especially his love of long mustaches, haha. And speaking of the stach... loved how Alfred is setup so differently here as well. So down for this. And again, I can't stress this enough... that cape is the shit!!

Action - Yes.
Spoiler
I was iffy about reading this, but I figured I would go ahead and try because of Waid (and Mon-El  ;)) and so glad I did. I have always loved the Phantom Zone, and this had me, pretty much from panel one.

As this is also coming out weekly, something my old, feeble brain is truly excited about (I may now actually remember what happened in the prior issue, HA), it gives my happiness another push towards delightfulness.

———————————————————————————————

ABSOLUTE BATMAN #1 - oh yeah! I am so onboard for this.  Absolutely awesome first issue.  I'm all-in!  ;)

ACTION COMICS #1070 - I really enjoyed this start to a new arc.  Dealing with the Phantom Zone will be fun.  But more surprising was how much I liked the Supergirl backup story.  Two good kick offs to what looks to be two great super story arcs!

GREEN LANTERN: CIVIL CORPS SPECIAL #1 - I guess the Absolute Power crossover derailed what Adams had planned here so this issue speeds things up? That's actually fine.  I was ready to move on to the wrap of that arc and I like where it has brought us. Loved seeing my favorite GL's in one book also.  This should be fun rolling into GL #16.

Legion of Super-Heroes #272 - Steve Ditko art hit me in the face like a rock.  Made the issue feel like an old 1960's comic.  And in this case that's not good.  But at least it was a one shot with Bloks origin.  The villains were pretty lame but as a ne shot story it was fine.  The other Legion applicants were pretty forgettable.  I wonder if they ever showed up in later issues.

MARVEL

X-men 2 - bleh. I really just might leave this next month-or make it my last.
Amazing Spider-man 54- pretty cool for me! Been digging Todd Nauck's art a lot here too!
Ultimate Spiderman 6 - the changes are what I'm reading for, I guess? Not startling amazing yet...
Thor 13 - a title that stays at a 'thunder god' level of electric and sizzling each month!

hoopla
Geiger 5, Recoat 6, Rook Exodus 6 - just digging this great art and fun storytelling going on!
Saga 69 - it's always good BKV
Conan 15 - love that this is the 3rd or 4th time that this story has been told in comic form. Great work Doug!
Hunger and the dusk 2 & 3 - I'm looking forward to where this is going to go. I like the depth of characters the ...characters have in their brief appearances

Coming up! Geiger 6 & 7, Conan 16, Hyde Street 1, Savage Sword of Conan 4(-6?, Battle of the Black Stone 1-3(4?), TMNT 1 (-3?)

Gotta get Black Hammer's last 2 editions read yet, too

DC ULTRA

Absolute Batman 1 - great start! The axe? Uh...sure! LOL But I want to read the next part!
Action Comics  - Great start with Waid coming back! I love the question
Spoiler
of 'what is the phantom zone? I've been all over the universe, multiverse, forward and back through time, and have no clue what it is or where it is?'

Loved that question and line of thinking!
Coming up World's Finest 31, Jenny Sparks 1-2, Allwinter 2-3Action 1070, GL Special Batman & Robin 14, finish Legion 272 that I had started :D

Legion - Ha, some pretty (unintentional) funny stuff here, but I did enjoy this for the most part. Ditko art only really, really bothered me on 1/3 of the book I think. so that's a bonus. Story-wise, I did love how easily Blok not only became a Legionnaire, but how... or "why"... he was able to stop being a member of the Legion of Assassins. Ha. Boom! Done and dusted!  :)

Dr. Strange - Holy Cow this was trippy. So much so that I sure wish I would have read this before taking my "vitamins" today ;) My mind was somewhat blown. Both by story and...  ;D. Major shout out to superstar Gene Colon, as he worked his ass off here and helped make this an epic story. Even though, again, due to "vitamin" use (I hope, and not just my old ass), I'm not 100% sure if Eternity wiped out Earth and all its inhabitants (IE: us) and then remade us or if Nightmare, grown in such power having all the humans to feed him while they slept, had Eternity dream he did or the two other options I have going around in my head... ? And did I just witness the ethereal Ancient One put Eternity in a freakin' headlock? I think so, but I would like to once again stress that "yes", this should've been an earlier in the day read.
;)
but still... LOVED IT!!!!

Quote from: Gay Titan on Nov 08, 2024, 09:54 PMI saw GL: Civil Corps Special #1 and wondered what it was about.

Yeah, it wasn't a bad comic, but it is essentially an (overly) fast conclusion to the Lantern books and a set-up to the upcoming Lantern books. Not needed (if you are thinking of buying it), unless you were already reading the GL books, but maybe a worthy read if you are thinking of jumping on the new series'

What? How can ANYTHING be too cosmic?  ;) But seriously, I understand. I still enjoyed it, as I know you did, but I do get what you are saying. That said, I think you will really the one-shot "A Faceful of Bullets" (Which for some reason, at least on my Hoopla, doesn't show up with the other books when you search "brzrkr", just to warn ya. Geiger 6 & 7 - I like the world getting bigger. Cool 'silent issue'
Conan 16 - I liked the Conan as a boy part of the story. Neat to see father be more than just the hardass. I like the journey we see Conan go on here.

DC ULTRA
Action 1070 -very cool start! Great to have Waid on Superman again, and I'm intrigued to enjoy the Supergirl part too!
GL Special - I liked this, actually. Seeing the GLs in all their phases doing things, it gives all the hints of what's coming up!
