Title: Weekly Reader, June 29, 2026
Post by: Perry on Jun 28, 2026, 11:27 AM
Carried over my Hoopla Koshchei the Deathless omni (thought I would get more done than I did) and I was going to add issue three of Corpse Knight to my Hoopla pull, and read issue two... from another source (COME ON, HOOPLA!!! Stop missing damn issues >:( )... but once again, that other source is down, haha, so I guess I will wait on that
;D

Also waiting on reading more Crossgen this week (though I may get to Ruse) to let Jeff catch up on his list so we can back into talking about these damn books (even though as of this writing, he may have knocked out most, if not all, of his list. I can always add to mine ;) )

Speaking of adding to a list... I think I am going to try that JSA Spectre arc. I got pulled into the cover art of this week's issue twenty, sooo...

And lastly, super excited that Byrne's "Elsewhen" X-Men story is finally published and Hoopla has it. I added that puppy with a quickness and now I have to wait to read it when I am in the mood for that 80's Bryne writing and a ton of panels with little to no background work
;D ;D

Is X-Men #27 the core X-title? I've read the solicitations and it looks interesting without being tied to ALL the other offshoots.

Jeff will be able to answer all of this more than I can, as I just jumped back in and he gave me information to begin with ;D
So I can't say for sure if it is THE core title, and again, Jeff was give enough to give me some back story on it when I talked about adding it, but I don't think you need to know anything on that as of YET.?.?

Only because what Jeff told me about a certain character has not been shown to matter... again... yet. However, what he told me was...

Spoiler
Dark Beast is back, on the team, but (and I think I remember this to be true)... but no-one is aware it is him instead of our ole' good, cloned Hank

Lol. Perry's spoiler is not correct.

For clarity, there are three Beasts.

1. Original Hank McCoy who turned bad in the Krakoa era and was killed at the end of Krakoa era.
2. Clone Beast - who is our current good/fun Beast and member of the X-Men.
3. Dark Beast - the Age of Apocalypse Beast who came over to our universe in the '90's and has nothing to do with anything current.

You don't need to know this for issues 26 & 27 but will if you read beyond.

Spoiler
Spoiler
In the Revelation crossover, Cyclops and Beast(clone) swapped bodies with their future selves and tried to stop Revelation from taking over the world after releasing a mutant virus. They failed and were returned to their bodies. It was only after Cyclops return that he found out that clone Beast was not body swapped and had no idea what he was talking about.
Turns out the original Hank (now bad) did not die and was the one who body swapped. He is also revealed as the secret leader of 3K, the evil X-Men team our core team has been battling on and off in this series.  Original Beast now knows about the Mutant virus and wants to develop it in our time to take over the world.

Ultimate Endgame - okay, the letter damn near made me want to cry. Thats why it should be that way in the proper MU. IYKYK

Iron Man 3 - I'm still into the book. I'm into seeing where this is going!

X-Men 27 - I went ahead and read X-Men 27 and yeah, all that stuff I told you doesn't matter for this arc. This is a new villain team and they are pretty cool on their own.

;D

Well, in defense of my... ignorance  ;D...

Spoiler
I never knew there was another Dark Beast. Keep in mind that aside from the odd issue or two, I never read AoA, because I was both out of comics at the time that that came out and I was also very far removed from any X-Men reading in general (dropped my X reading when Bishop era started), so when everyone from podcasters to article writers to every fan at the time of the Krakoa era, started calling the original Beast, who went bad, "Dark Beast" (and everyone was calling him that, though I see now it was in reference to another) I just went by that name.
So when you told me that the original Beast is back and not dead... my mind went to "Dark Beast is back"... as that is who I knew him as  :)

All that said, was there references all over the place that I missed when reading the Krakoa Era that made it clear that the "Original Beast" is not the same as "Dark Beast"? Probably, haha, but yeah, Original Beast turned into Dark Beast in my mind, so... there ya go.

My apologies Rodney

No need to apologize. I will see what issues are on the newsstand tomorrow. I loved AoA! It gave us Blink.

Glad you dug it. I tried, many a'times, but can't get through it. I am just not a 90's art guy
:'(

That said, I have read and enjoyed Exiles featuring Blink  :)

The original Exiles series was one of my favorites!

Agree, though I never was a huge fan of the way Calafiore drew faces (they always seemed flat to me), it is still a very good series with a great look to it.
The occasional flat face aside, of course
:)
